Census Bureau's My Tribal Area

Preview a new Census Bureau tool called My Tribal Area and give feedback!

The U.S. Census Bureau is excited to release a preview of a new data tool called My Tribal Area. This Web application provides easy access to estimates that detail characteristics of the people, jobs, housing, economy, and educational levels in America's tribal areas and reservations. The estimates come from responses to the American Community Survey over a five-year period, from 2010 to 2014.

My Tribal Area was designed to give you quick and smooth access to information. For example, you can search for tribal areas using a type-ahead search by tribal area name or a drop-down menu to select a particular area in a state. A glossary is available to help you understand how the application defines the types of reservations and tribal areas.

We encourage you to explore this preview of My Tribal Area, and we welcome your comments and suggestions. You can use the feedback form that's available in the app. An updated release scheduled for this winter will make My Tribal Area even more comprehensive, with map images and descriptive legends for each tribal area, as well as estimates that include the years 2011 to 2015.   Be on the look out for our announcement when the full My Tribal Area application is released.

New TIGER Products and Congressional District Maps Now Available

From the Association of Public  Data Users:

New TIGER Products and Congressional District Maps Now Available
In addition to the features released in 2012, the 2013 TIGER/Line Shapefiles include a coastline feature. The coastline was delineated by the Census Bureau in the MAF/TIGER database based on water measurement class for display of statistical information only; its depiction and designation for statistical purposes does not constitute a determination of jurisdictional authority or rights of ownership or entitlement and it is not a legal land description.

The TIGER Geodatabases provide national (and state-based) files often requested by customers and the ability to download multiple layers in a single file.

In addition to the national wall map, the Individual 113th Congressional District Wall Maps are now available for download here.

New data from the Current Population Survey

Message from the State Data Center:

The Current Population Survey (CPS) will release data on poverty, median household income, and health insurance coverage on Thursday, September 16, at 10am. Visit the US Census Bureau home page at http://www.census.gov and look for an icon in the upper left corner of the page. You will be able to access the data and media kit to go with the data.

CPS is a small sample survey that produces annual data for state comparisons. This is NOT the American Community Survey (ACS) release. The ACS income and poverty release is scheduled for September 28 and will include data for sub-state areas with populations over 65,000. Additional ACS data for areas with populations below 65,000 will follow later this year.
